怪しい地図記号 その3
前回並べて明らかになった地図記号のエボリューションだが、それはあくまでも「陸軍兵営」を示した「旗」である。
実は陸軍そのもの、というより「陸軍家屋」ないし「陸軍所轄」を表す記号が存在し、それ自体が「進化」していたのであった。
以下の通り、上から順に「迅速図式」、「仮製図式」および「測図図式」、「明治24年式」～「昭和17年式」である。
さて、ここに至ってようやく本項「その1」の冒頭で示した「怪しい地図記号」に立ち返ることができる。
つまり、かの記号の上半分「仮面ライダーの触角」にあたる図形は、上掲なかばの「М」字にほかならないことが判然とするのである。
しからばその下の黒窓付箱型は何であるかといえば、これがいまひとつわからない。
上掲は輯製二十万分一図「東京」（1888：M21輯製）図の一部で、現在の北区赤羽付近である。
3本の道のうち、真中は二条線のうち片側が太く描かれた国道で中山道、板橋宿から分岐するのは二条線の県道川越街道、東側で鉄道が沿い赤羽と岩淵を通るのは県道の旧日光御成道である。
岩淵や赤羽に見える斜線付き丸記号は「（人口）五百（人）以上」の「村落」を示しているが、岩淵の丸から南西、中山道本蓮沼（単純な丸記号は「五百以下」の村落）の北に向かう一条線（里道）の途中に、中野で見たのと同様の「怪しい地図記号」が鎮座している。
『新修北区史』（1971年）によれば、これは「明治五年ごろ武庫司によって建設せられた火薬庫を前身とする」「陸軍火薬庫」で「約三万四千百坪の地積を有していた」という。中野犬小屋は約16万坪というから、犬小屋の方が5倍以上広かったのである。明治末期の地形図によれば、旧陸軍火薬庫の位置は現在の北区桐ヶ丘1丁目全域に相当するようだ。
『中野区の歴史』（1979年）は、その犬小屋跡について「明治三〇年（一八九七）に初めて陸軍の鉄道隊・電信隊・気球隊兵営がこの地に創設された。そして交通兵旅団司令部も置かれたが、その後、鉄道隊・気球隊は千葉県下に移転し、電信隊のみが残り、第一電信連隊と改称した」と記す。
さてもうひとつ、実は本項その1で示した1906年図の右下、「中渋谷」の文字に接して「怪しい地図記号」が存在していた。この位置は当時の代々木練兵場ないし衛戍監獄（陸軍刑務所）にあたる。衛戍監獄だとすれば現在の渋谷区役所および神南小学校の場所である。
結局のところ「仮面ライダー」触角下の黒窓付四角形は、陸軍施設ではあるもののその類別を特定しないということになる。
すでにお気づきの向きがあるかも知れないが、触角を取り払った「黒窓付四角」は「怪しい地図記号」の右下「なかの」停車場を示す記号にほかならず、「於ほくぼ」「しんじゆく」「しなのまち」「しぶや」も同様の記号で描かれているのである（本項その1の1906年図参照）。
