定型短詩もしくはソネットについて　―その8

書家の石川九楊著『日本語とはどういう言語か』（2006年）のp.209の見出しは「漢字によって阻まれた動詞の成長」となっていて、「なく」という日本語の動詞の例が挙げられている。
古代日本における漢字の移入にともない、日本語の動詞、たとえば「なく」は、泣、鳴、啼、哭といった文字表記に依存することによって、それ自身の発達が阻害されたと言う。
英語では猫が鳴くのをmewという動詞を使って表現するが、日本語では「にゃあとなく」と副詞を添えざるを得ず、「みゃあなく」「わんなく」などといった独自の動詞が誕生することはなかったと言うのである。

これは三好の言う「少數の動詞」に関連した、日本語の形成および生成変容に象形文字（漢字）が果たした役割の大きさとその結果生じた和語動詞の少なさの指摘である。
けれども既述のように、詩歌の構成上そのことが「工夫の餘地なく」「宿命的」（三好）に押韻を妨げることには、ならないのである。

しかし、この本のタイトルはかの三浦つとむの名著とうり二つで、現在では両者とも講談社学術文庫に収まっているのは苦笑を禁じ得ない。
石川は、自著と同書名の先達の達成について片言も触れることはないのである。
レベルが違うと言えばそれまでだが、たとえばタレントの武田鉄矢がラジオのレギュラー番組で石川のこの本をとりあげて長々紹介しているのは、俗受けし易いが故の今日的現象にほかならない。

「日本語の動詞」に関連して、今日的現象をさらに端的に示す次の例を一読されたい。

日本語（大和言葉）ってひょっとして動詞の数が少なくないですか？

その発想は西洋的です。
概念にごく自然な形で言葉に分化しています。概念として似ている物を、似たままそのままのイメージで言葉に仕立てた日本人の知恵です。

日本語では、子供は「かく」という平仮名の言葉を教えられ、やがて漢字を覚える頃、漢字に合わせ無理なく概念を高度化・複雑化させられます。個人の言葉の習熟度に関わらず、子供から大人までなんとなく言葉が通じるのも、日本語の優れた体系化のお陰でしょう。極めて優れた特徴として、人間が使う言葉の理想形だと私は思っています。

もちろん「ベストアンサー」に選ばれたこの回答は、石川の言うように日本語形成史からしても明白な誤りである。
それ以上に問題なのは、質問者は適切な具体例を示して推論しているのに対して、回答者は頭ごなしに質問者の疑問を否定し、実証も論証も抜き、つまり「回答なし」で、空疎な日本語優秀論のお説教を垂れていることである。

疑問に「西欧的」も「日本的」もない。
自分が使う言語の特徴に興味を持った、そのこと自体が貴重である。
つまり質問者は、日本（語）とそのなかにいる自らを対象化する視座の契機をつかんだのである。
回答者はその視線をいきなり遮り、そんな質問は「非国民」だとばかりに視界を地上に引き戻させる。
夜郎自大というよりも、あきらかに「ネット地回り」の振舞いである。
内閣官房機密費に与った、電通あたりの「ニッポンすごい」世論工作の末端露出を疑うが、いずれにせよこのようなトンデモ回答をベストアンサーとするならば、日本列島の住民は総体として再び衰亡の途をたどるしかないのである。

    As for the system registry, it has full access, so it’s there if you need it. When it comes to management options, there are none. Some may argue that’s a less than perfect option, but it’s all-inclusive.
