『地図の事典』書評　その2

以下の画像は『東京経済大学報』（2017年10月号）の「教員リレーコラム」に寄せた拙文であるが、この「書評」を「予定」したものであるため再掲する。

この中ほどに記したように、本書の原稿執筆締切は2015年9月で、刊行予定は2016年（の春？）であった。
本書の画像をメインに「企画から刊行まで10年」と書きつけた今年の年賀状を見たが、それは居直りと言うものであろう。

発行が遅れに遅れたのは何ゆえであったのか、締切通りに原稿を提出した執筆者に対して、いや執筆者全員に対して、途中経過報告も弁明も一切なかったのである。

すっかり忘れ去った頃に、出し抜けに校正ゲラが届き、挙句の果てに本ができたから執筆者割引で買え、という版元の通知である。
通常は執筆者印税について然るべき説明があって、それとの相殺で買えるなら買う、というのが作法であろう。
拙評に書いた通り、「監修」ないし「編集」に十分な時間がかけられた形跡も見当たらないのだから、不信感はさらに募る。

結論から言ってしまえば、この本はカラフルな見た目とはうらはらに、執筆者についても購読者ないし読者に対しても、甘えていると言うより「高を括っている」ところがあるのである。
